This is from a storm chasing on May/13/2006 in Texas. I and my chase partner Markus Pfister had fun with some large hail banging on the roof of a gas station.
The eclipse of 1999 was my first total solar eclipse. Unfortunately the sky was overcast during totality. Nevertheless it was impressive and we had fun. We observed the eclipse near Metz in France.
You may know sundogs. But there many more kinds of halos in the sky. This computer simulation shows how the shape of halos changes with sun altitude.
