This is a tribute and favorite rare track of mine by the great Tammi Terrell from 1966 on Motown, composed by Stevie Wonder for her. I hope you like it as much as I do. PS Note that this is the first and original recording of this song! JOHN
This is probably the most well known of Shorty Long's most original tracks, which arrived in May 1968 on the Soul label of Motown. As I said before he died in a boating accident in June 1969. A short lived career. JOHN
Some will know this track as it was played for years. The Originals were among many Motown groups like The Marvelettes, The Elgins, The Velvelettes to name a few, that were not noticed much here in the UK when the recordings were first heard. So here is the truly "Originals!" John
This is an unreleased 1966 track from Brenda Holloway, also originally known as "Reconsider" I've several to come. Hope you like this one, let me know of course.
This is from the late and wonderful Mary Wells, once dubbed the "Queen of Motown", who can forget the famous "My Guy" back in 1964, like this rare track, I've some lovely ballads by her.
Here's a typical nice ballad from Mary Wells taken from the vaults of Motown and forgotten all these years, so now you can hear it! Do you think it deserves a play? Wonderful!
This is from the rare Ric-Tic label (1964-1968) and I rate J J Barnes like the also forgotten Marv Johnson who was the first person to record on Motown! very talented. Marv was famous for "I'll Pick A Rose For My Rose" which I've now added. JOHN
This is unusual for me as it's an early 1960's composition by Berry Gordy that he never used until this one with Shanice which he produced in 1998. I like it a lot.
Here's a request for peeterpoon, the great Supremes with Up The Ladder To The Roof which was on Motown 1162 in February 1970 or in the UK on TMG 735 in April 1970. Tell me if you like this track?
This one by "The Marvelettes" was never released on single at the time, but I know it became popular with the "Northern Soul" fans, let me know if you like it? Thanks John
I was always an admirer of "The Supremes", they were so professional, so here's another rare one again, hope you like it? Thanks for all your comments too! JOHN
Shorty Long was most famous for "Here Comes The Judge" in May 1968 (Soul label) sadly he drowned in a boating accident, in Canada a month after this recording, age 29!
This sweet track on TMG-843 released in February 1973 is significant for two reasons, it was the very last record by Martha Reeves on Motown sadly, and was not released in the US at all, only in the UK. John
This good track by Marv Johnson from 1969 is a request for SILENTBOATMAN, it was not released as a single at the time, but was on his album "I'll Pick A Rose For My Rose" A great artist and tune don't you think? Now is your chance to hear it too!
This Yvonne Fair track was recorded in 1969, but released in July 1970, and was on Soul35075 but not released in the UK. She had a very soulful voice and was once a member of the Chantels. Isn't this a nice track from the long forgotten Yvonne Fair? I'd appreciate your comments on this track, please? John
Here's my rare Edwin Starr Ric-Tic label single from Motown's Vaults. It's another one that's been a favourite for years, what do you think of it? I'd be interested to hear your opinions on this one? Edwin died recently sadly, and he was on Motown's Soul label mostly. Feel free to listen to Ian Levine's excellent "Motorcity" version of this by Edwin too, a real tribute. JOHN
This track by The Spinners (known as The Detroit Spinners in UK) is from Motown's vaults and was never released.
They produced some great sounds over the years. I have about 30 tracks by them alone! A great group. JOHN
Gladys Knight and her cousins/brother "ThePips" catching their "Midnight Train To Georgia", and Atlanta where they came from! one of Motown's greats, yes?
This is one of Marvin and Kim from Tamla label in Dec 1966, they did a lot of tracks together before he began the famous singing duo with Tammi Terrell of course. Nice track too.
I've always liked the slow tracks of The Marvelettes so this one from 1968 released in December on the Tamla label is a favourite of mine, I hope you will like it too.
This is an unreleased (at the time) track by Gladys Knight And The Pips who were on the Soul label, they come from Atlanta, Georgia. I hope you like this track feel free to let me know? JOHN
